Chairman of Brynmawr and District Museum, Norman Griffiths, and secretary, Vivian Williams, with the winner of Brynmawr Museum’s ‘Design a Logo’ competition, Marielle Meredith Chairman of Brynmawr and District Museum, Norman Griffiths, and secretary, Vivian Williams, with the winner of Brynmawr Museum’s ‘Design a Logo’ competition, Marielle Meredith, from Blaenycwm County Primary School. Marielle is holding her framed logo design which will be on permanent display at the museum.

OVER 130 children entered Brynmawr Museum’s ‘design a logo’ competition giving the judge, local artist Frances Baines, the difficult task of selecting a winner.

After much deliberation Frances, who painted the Brynmawr mural, announced Marielle Meredith, of Blaenycwm County Primary School, as the winner. “This competition has been very difficult to judge,” Frances said. “There were 136 entries and all were of a high standard, clearly a great deal of thought had gone into each one.

“This competition was to design a logo for Brynmawr Museum, so I looked for drawings that would tell me about the history of Brynmawr.

Marielle’s logo is a simple shield with just three key images, shapes that can be easily printed on the smallest souvenir pen or pencil, and yet still speaks volumes about Brynmawr: the wheel, the coal tram, and the Halleujah Lamp,” she said.

A presentation was held for the winner, Marielle, during a school assembly where she was presented with a certificate and a £10 gift voucher by the chairman of Brynmawr and District Museum, Norman Griffiths and Vivian Williams, secretary. Presentations are also being held for the joint runners up Emily Williams, of Garnfach Infant School, and Kristian Evans, of St Mary’s Church in Wales Primary School.
