YOUNG volunteers have been praised, by the chairman of Abergavenny Rotary Club’s Steam Rally
committee, for giving up their time to help their community. Anthony Davies singled out the youngsters
special efforts during the presentation of cheques to the organisations who helped the club run this year’s steam rally.
Mr Davies told representatives from the organisations that the Rotary Club could not have put on the event by their own efforts.
“We can run the show and provide the framework, but the work of the volunteers who put the time and effort into
the steam rally to make it the success it is, is the vital key.
“A lot of Rotary’s efforts go towards the youth of the community, so it is specially heartening to see so
many youngsters make an effort to help their community,” he said.
Donations were made to the Scouts, Air Training Corps, Gateway Club, Inner Wheel, Army Cadet Force,
Crime Prevention, Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund, Carnival Committee, St John’s Ambulance, Abergavenny Rugby Club and
the Round Table. Work has already begun on planning the next show and the club
says it is always looking for ways to improve the experience for visitors.
“Next year we can promise all the wonderful steam engines, the vintage cars and motorbikes, the crafts and
displays, all the things people look forward to.
“But we want to make it more than that with entertainment for the children, bigger and
better arena events so that more than ever before, this will be a show absolutely not to be missed,” Mr Davies said.
