A LOCAL woman will be jetting off to the Far East for the challenge of a lifetime in May, to
walk the Great Wall of China to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust through its China Challenge.
Jenny Tuckett of Llandewi Rhydderch, a paediatric occupational therapist at Nevill Hall Children’s Centre, has
been busy over the past few months organising numerous fund raising events to enable her to reach her target of
£2,500.
Her latest, and she hopes final fund-raising event, will be an Art and Craft Auction at The Lamb and Flag,
Abergavenny, on Tuesday, March 18, when items on offer include paintings, ceramics, jewellery, photographs,
basket ware, glass, woodturning and textiles.
Interested buyers can view the items from 6pm and the auction starts at8pm. Local auctioneer John Jenkins will be
carrying out the auction. Alternatively, items can be viewed at the Court Cupboard Craft Gallery,Llantilio Pertholey on
March 15 and 16 between 10.30am - 5 pm.
Intrepid Jenny decided she would test herself to the limit over 80 km walking on the Great Wall after seeing
at first hand the devastation caused to families by meningitis.
It has always been her ambition to venture along the magical landmark, and the chance to pull on the walking
boots for such a worthwhile cause gave her the spur to fulfill her dream.
Jenny has so far raised £2,000 and hopes that the auction will help her achieve the extra money she needs
to take part in the walk. Funds raised will help provide care and support for people affected by meningitis.
The charity aims to educate the public and professionals about the dangers of the disease, as well as funding life
saving medical research.
